Market Rasen Football Club

Ruston Sports 7-1 Market Rasen Town

After a couple of weeks inactivity due to the inclement weather, Market Rasen Town travelled down the A46 to renew acquaintances with Ruston Sports.
Included in the Ruston’s line up was leading scorer Gavin Mackie with 17 league goals already this season.
Rasen on the other hand were without the experienced Danny Hargreaves and Dom Reville, but did welcome back Ed Bruntlett to the heart of the Rasen defence. In goal Rasen were forced to rely on youth again with Anthony Beales who replaced the unavailable Dale Christie.
Ruston’s started a ferocious pave and Rasen’s lack of activity in previous weeks was clear for all to see and from the kick off struggled to cope with the attacking flair of the home side. After only 10 minutes Mackie increased his season goal tally finishing neatly from a cross from the left wing.
This did spark Rasen into action and for a twenty minute period showed signs of the levels shown during the fixtures over the Christmas period. Rasen pressed and forced a number corners which was dealt with by the home team.
In a similar move to Rustons first goal Butcher scored the first of his goals. Rustons effectively ended the game in the final attack of the opening half when Butcher headed home his second.
Rasen showed some fight in the early part of the second half with Kyle Paul easing James Bennett’s work load joining him in attack.
A fine point blank save from Beales summed up Rasen’s luck when the keeper parried straight into the path of the on rushing Mackie to slam home from close range.
Kyle Paul showed what he is capable of when he squirmed an opening for himself evading his markers to curl a fabulous curling shot into the top corner from the edge of the home penalty area.
Almost immediately Ruston’s capitalised on a rare Drew Norburn error for Mackie to complete his hat trick.
Disappointingly Rasen’s heads dropped further and goals from sub Wilkinson and Melton completed Rasen’s misery.
Rasen travel to second in the table Cleethorpes Town next Saturday, Kick off 2pm
“We have got to keep going as we will be soon into a run of games that we should be picking points up in, not to mention a cup quarter final in the first week of March”. Commented Rasen Boss Ian Williams.
“We just didn't’turn up today and it will be an interesting week to see who is up for the Cleethorpes trip next week. We had a great spell over Christmas so I know we are capable of performing much better".

Ed Bruntlett returns to the squad after injury.

Humbertherm Off and Fixture Change for The 16th Feb - 8/2/13

Tomorrow's game at CGB Humbertherm has fallen foul to a waterlogged pitch.

Rasen have also had a change for next Saturday's fixture and rather than face Boston Utd at home,  they now travel along the A46 to Lincoln to play Ruston Sports for a 2pm Kick off.

Rasen will look to avenge an early season beating from Ruston's who have enjoyed a decent season so far sitting 8 points and four places above Rasen in 9th place.

Nettleham 3-1 Market Rasen Town - Sat 2nd Feb 2013

Market Rasen missed out on an opportunity to move further up the Lincolnshire Football League table on Saturday, producing a below par performance at near neighbors Nettleham on Saturday.
Rasen introduced new signing Danny Hargreaves into the starting line up and the former Grantham Town wide man replaced the unavailable Jason Hall. Drew Norburn also made a welcome return to the centre of defence after a short period out with a troublesome ankle.
On a bumpy surface and with a strong wind blowing down the slope it was never going to be a day for slick passing and both sides struggled to engage any long periods of possession. The strong wind made it difficult for Rasen to clear their lines and strong defending from the home side meant James Bennett had his work cut out attempting to hold the ball up in the Rasen front line.
Rasen squandered possession from a throw in down the right hand side forcing Rasen to retreat to the edge of their own penalty area. The lively Josh Bowden received the ball with his back to goal and his neat turn and shot beat Dale Christie for the opening midway through the the first half.
A neat interchange between Lowman and Guy Smith saw Smith find enough space on the right flank to cross for the on rushing Bennett, but good defending prevented him from getting enough contact on the ball to trouble the home keeper.
Just before half time Rasen fell further behind when too much space was afforded to Nettleham's Burgess on the edge of the Rasen penalty area and he too finished neatle past Christie for the second goal.
Whilst the score line somewhat flattered the home side Rasen had rarely threatened. However, this was always going to be a game of two different halves dictated by the strong wind.
Danny Hargreaves jinked his way into the home penalty area as Rasen pressed but when he was felled by what looked like a trip the referee waved play on. Indeed this summed up Rasen's luck on the day and they fell further behind when caught on the break by Jack Darby, who beat the Rasen offside trap, latching on to a long ball from defence to calmly stroke the ball past Christie.
Aaron Mettam and Steve Adcock were brought on to freshen things up for Rasen, who spent the remainder of the game in the home half looking to reduce arrears.
A free kick on the left hand side of the penalty area allowed Danny Hargreaves the opportunity to open his account when he curled the ball into the far corner making the score 3-1.
The home side although defending deep in their half reduced Rasen to long shots that failed to test the home keeper. Tempers flared when Mettam found himself on the end of a heavy challenge sustaining a nasty foot injury. Scott Lowman found himself once more having his name taken when in the final minutes when the referee booked him for persistent offending.

On reflection this was an opportunity missed by Rasen and they must regroup for next Saturdays trip to strugglers Humbertherm for a 2pm kick off.

New Face for Nettleham Trip - Fri 1st Feb 2013

Rasen travel to Nettleham FC this Saturday for a 2pm kick off at Mulsanne Park. Rasen hope to welcome back Drew Norburn and Ed Bruntlett to the squad and both will undertake late fitness tests before they name the side. Rasen will be without Jason Halll through work committments so he is replaced by former Grantham Town and Lincoln Utd attacking midfielder Danny Hargreaves, who could make his debut in a Rasen shirt.
Although placed 4th in the league table Nettleham have struggled for form of late so Rasen travel with hope of bringing home something in the way of points from the game.

 Rasen new signing Danny Hargreaves

Skegness Utd 4-0 Market Rasen Town

Market Rasen travelled to top of the table Skegness United on Saturday. With the pitch at Wainfleet Road passing an early morning pitch inspection it turned out to be the only fixture played in the Sills & Betteridge Lincolnshire Football league.
Skegness, sitting proudly at the top of the league and fresh off the back of their away win at fellow table toppers Cleethorpes Town, included the league's leading scorer Kurt Crossley who was looking to add further to his 22 goals already this season.
Rasen on the other hand were forced into a number of changes seeing Steve Adcock and Dom Revill replacing the injured Drew Norburn and Ed Bruntlett in the back line.
With the pitch in a heavy condition it was always going to be difficult for either side to play any decent football and early exchanges saw a coming together of Rasen skipper Joe Osbourne and Skegness player manager Mark Hallam. The referee deciding to send off Hallam for an off the ball offence.
This fuelled the already partisan crowd even more and the game settled into a midfield battle.
On the 25 minute mark the only piece of decent play saw danger man Crossley combine with strike partner Ryan Loughlan on the edge of the Rasen area and their sharp passing and movement gave Crossley the the opening he needed to fire past Christie.
Both Scott Lowman and and James Bennett found their names taken by the referee as Rasen's frustrations from their lack of forward progress came to the fore.
As has been the case on many time this season Rasen pressed the self destruct button. An innocuous through ball required Rasen keeper Dale Christie to charge to the edge of his penalty area only for him to completely miss his kick due to the cruellest of bobbles and allow the on-rushing Ryan Loughlan the easiest of tap ins.
Towards the end of the first half Rasen did force a number of corners but the home defence held firm without the home keeper put under any real pressure.
The early second half exchanges mirrored most of the first half as Rasen huffed and puffed in an attempt to get back into the game. Kyle Paul on the left flank got the better of his marker to bring a fine block from the Skegness keeper, who again blocked Scott Lowman's rebounded shot to safety for Rasen's only real threat to the Skegness goal.
However, as the game neared its final quarter Rasen fell further behind when Revill tripped his marker to concede a penalty which Crossley converted. this was quickly followed by a fourth goal claimed by Josh Clarke.
Whilst this was always going to be a difficult challenge Rasen will be disappointed with their lack lustre showing after great advances over the Christmas period. On the bright side Ryan Penniston probably had his best game this season and skipper Joe Osbourne showed why he carries the captain's armband with his usual wholehearted display.

Rasen have the chance to bounce back with a trip to near neighbours Nettleham F.C. next Saturday for a 2pm kick off.

Snow Go at Jakemans Stadium - 18th Jan 2013

Rasen's game this Saturday at Boston United has fallen to the weather. The pitch at York Street is snowbound and frozen.
Rasen now concentrate on the visit to league leaders Skegness United next Saturday (26th Jan).

Market Rasen Town 2-3 Heckington United - 12 Jan 2013

Market Rasen Towns's three match unbeaten run came to an end on Saturday. After leading 2-0 at half time Rasen looked to be good value for another three Lincolnshire League points. However, Heckington had other ideas and for the last half hour of this fixture pressed Rasen into the dour defending that was prevalent in the early season.
Rasen Manager Ian Williams took full responsibility for the second half performance " When they scored their first goal I thought we needed freshening up a little so made a change in personnel and the system. The system change knocked us and we lost all shape and discipline. We ask the lads to take responsibility for their errors, if we don't we never learn from them, so the same goes for me , I am learning too. The lads have been brilliant over the last few weeks and they showed what they are capable of by totally controlling the first half."

This was definitely a game of two halves. Rasen showed their intent early forcing the visitors to defend deep in their own own half and Rasen enjoying the lion's share of possession. this was evident mostly down the left hand side where Kyle Paul and James Bennett were fed by some fine distribution from Matt Rutherford at left back.
After 15 minutes Kyle Paul fed the onrushing Scott Lowman in the inside right position. Lowman was allowed to strike unchallenged from the edge of the box towards the Heckington goal only to see James Bennett neatly divert the ball into the Heckington goal for a deserved lead.
Kyle Paul then tormented his marker down the left wing producing a superb cross which just evaded Jason Hall at the far post.
Rasen's use of the long throw and a succession of corners was proving a problem for the visiting keeper and Rasen's eagerness for more goals saw the home keeper forced into action on numerous occasions. His endeavour only resulted in him injuring his leg which would hinder him for Rasen's next goal.
Guy Smith, again enjoying his defensive midfield role crossed from wide right of midfield towards the far post, with the keeper struggling to back pedal Smith watched his cross come shot drop into the corner of the net and Rasen went into the break with that two goal lead.
Early on it was clear that the domination of the first half would be more difficult to exert as the visitors made a couple of key changes giving them a little more attacking capability.
A strike from 25 yards from Wilson took enough of a deflection to distract Dale Christie in the Rasen goal to reduce arrears on the hour mark prompting a change in personnel and formation from 4-5-1 to 4-4-2. Heckington took advantage of less congestion in the midfield to free Pinnington who raced towards the right hand side of the area unchallenged to fire past Christie and bring Heckington level.

From being in total control Rasen now had to try and hang on for a point in the final throws of the game and were eventually undone when they were beaten at their own game from a long throw. Rasen did not mark from the deep throw into the area where the visiting burly striker was left unmarked near the left hand touch line where he controlled and squared for Mussan to stab the winner home and leave Rasen dejected.

Rasen must re group for their trip to Boston United's palatial Jakemans Stadium next Saturday where it is hoped they will be joined by a strong Rasen following for a game against a youthful Boston United second string. Kick off 2pm.

Market Rasen Town 2-1 Grimsby Borough Res. - 29th Dec 2012

A goal in each half from  Market Rasen Town's  leading scorer Kyle Paul was enough for the home side to gain maximum spoils from their latest home fixture in the Lincolnshire League last Saturday.
With the pitch passing a mid morning inspection and with heavy lunchtime rain, conditions in one half were heavy to say the least.
The visitors, Grimsby Borough used the opportunity to play a number of first team players in a bid to improve their lowly league position as their first team  were without a fixture.
Rasen went into the game without the unavailable defender Dom Revill and  strikers Adam Brumpton and the injured Steve Adcock. This meant a return to the starting line up for Drew Marshall at left back and Guy Smith  in his familiar holding midfield role.
Rasen started the brighter and after good pressure from James Bennett a poor clearance from the experienced Baker in the visiting back line gave Kyle Paul an opportunity. On this occasion he rushed his shot from the edge of the  box and fired over the bar.
As with previous weeks, Rasen looked to get plenty of balls into the visiting penalty area using Ed Bruntlett's long throws and Matt Rutherford quality from set pieces. It was from one of these Rutherford free kicks that James Bennett brought a superb point blank save from the Borough keeper with a fine header.
Bennetts hold up play and aerial superiority was a feature of Rasen's first half domination and Bennett was unlucky to see claims for a penalty waved away by the referee when another powerful run saw him bundled over in the box when in full flow.
On the half hour mark Rasen took a deserved lead with a goal of real quality. Top scorer Kyle Paul received the ball on the left hand side of the penalty area dribbled across the front edge of the box and just when it looked like he had taken the ball too far, with a swivel of the hips some how used his stronger left foot to fire past the keeper.
Dale Christie in the Rasen goal and the Rasen back line had coped well with occasional Grimsby attacks and the only surprise was that Rasen didn't go into half time with a bigger margin of goals.
Rasen's midfield trio of Scott Lowman, Guy Smith and skipper Joe Osbourne continued to win the midfield battle, closing down their opponents and feeding the frontline with decent service. With Smith in particular revelling in the heavy conditions, cleaning up anything that got passed Lowman and Osbourne.
Rasen needed a little slice of luck when the referee awarded what seemed like a soft penalty to the visitors. Dale Christie was forced to save at the feet of the goal bound Borough striker. The ball rebounded to one of his colleagues who under pressure from Marshall and Brunlett went to ground resulting in the referee pointing to the spot.  Fortunately the resulting spot kick was blasted high over Christie's goal.
This did however bring Rasen back to the boil and shortly after Matt  Rutherford swung over a pin point cross from the right wing which was met by the on rushing Kyle Paul. His fierce header rebounded back off the cross bar but Paul's momentum allowed him to prod the ball home for his and Rasen 's second goal.
With 10 minutes remaining the visitors did capitalise on Matt Rutherfords hesitancy to reduce arrears and leave a somewhat nervy last few minutes. Good solid defending from the impeccable Norburn and Bruntlett, along with Christie's ability to deal with a couple of last ditch Grimsby Borough corners saw the home team complete their first back to back victories of the season.
"We were excellent today from front to back. We dealt with the difficult surface better than the opposition and thoroughly deserved the points." commented Rasen Manager Ian Williams after the game.
"Kyles first goal was a terrific piece of skill. If that was on Match of the Day it would be replayed over and over for weeks. He is a great talent who really should be playing at a higher level. When he is on that form he is as good as any striker in the league."

Market Rasen Town 2-0 Horncastle Town - 15th Dec 2012

Horncastle Town were the latest visitors to Rase Park for what on paper looked an intriguing Lincolnshire wolds derby. With both sides so far this season battling against inconsistency a decent crowd were treated to a typical derby encounter on a crisp sunny day at Rase Park. With the playing surface again in a good condition despite recent heavy rain.

Rasen were again forced to tinker with their line with veteran custodian Dale Christie returning. Ryan Penniston unavailable this week, was replaced by debutante Dom Revill at centre half. Revill, a former Lincoln United and Stamford AFC defender had been a target for Rasen all year, and finally made return to the game after a long period out through injury. Jason Hall joined Kyle Paul on the flanks as Rasen adopted the traditional 4-4-2 formation.
The visitors, who have a number of players out through injury included former Lincoln Moorlands striker Daniel Bent in their attack.

Early exchanges saw Rasen place plenty of pressure on the visitors goal with Ed Bruntletts long throws causing more than one goalmouth scramble.
controversy struck after 15 minutes when a mix up on the edge of their own area saw a visiting defender roll the ball past his own on rushing keeper after some pressure form striker James Bennett, the ball trickled towards the line with the keeper backpedaling and sliding the ball to kick the ball clear, but not, according to the linesman before the ball had crossed the line and a 1-0 lead to Rasen. Horncastle hotly disputed the decision which saw one of the players receiving a caution for his appeal.

As has been the case for most of the season the visitors hit back immediately. A hopeful ball into the Rasen area from the right wing saw Ed Bruntlett and his marker contest the cross only for Bruntlett adjudged to have pushed his challenger and concede the softest of penalties.
However, the visitors were unable to capitalise on this good fortune as the resulting kick was blasted high over Dale Christies cross bar.
This did spark the visitors into action and for the remainder of the half Dale Christie and his defenders were the busiest. Christie, having his best game so far this season , was called upon on numerous occasions to narrow the angle and block at the feet of on rushing Horncastle attackers.
At the other end James Bennett created an opening for himself but his weak effort never troubled the visitors goal.
Horncastle would have been disappointed that they had not got to half time on level terms, but for once a little bit of luck had been enjoyed by the home side.

It would be fair to say that while honours were even in the first period, Rasen dominated the second. Skipper Joe Osbourne led the way, Osbourne marshalled his troops and his swashbuckling midfield play ably assisted by Scott Lowman enabled Rasen to play most of the second period in the Horncastle half. This also meant that wide men Kyle Paul and Jason Hall saw more of the ball and the Horncastle defence were made to work harder.
At the back, Revill and Norburn looked solid, with Revill's ring rust wearing off Rasen dealt with any occasional attacks.

Ed Bruntlet limped off after a decent shift at full back to be replaced by the returning  Drew Marshall, but this didn't upset Rasen solidity and Marshall was responsible for some decent distribution to the front line but disappointingly Rasen were all too often caught offside.

With 10 minutes remaining James Bennett broke the Horncastle offside trap and was able to run unchallenged on the Horncastle goal to slip the ball past the keeper and bring some reward for Rasen s dominance.

Rasen skipper and man of the match Joe Osbourne was delighted with the result " The lads really dug in today. It wasn't pretty at times but everyone showed the work rate and effort needed to get the result. The back four in particular were superb and because of that we never looked in danger in the second half. If we show the same application over the next run of games we will get our fair share of points."

Market Rasen Town 2- 5 Lincoln United Reserves

The visit of Lincoln United's second string to Rase Park gave Market Rasen s footballers their first opportunity of a double following on from their fine away victory at United's Ashby Avenue last month. This, also off the back of another victory last Saturday against Boston Town should have provided a solid platform for a positive result in front of their loyal following on a cold day on the banks of the fast flowing river Rase.

Ryan Penniston made his return at centre half and Kyle Paul returned to the front line to partner James Bennett. In goa,l 16 year old Lincoln College keeper Anthony Beals made his debut as the youngster answered a late call as both keepers on the Rasen books were unavailable.

On a difficult pitch that was a mixture of frozen and heavy areas early exchanges were even but scrappy with young Beals being called upon to clear his lines on a couple of occasions which he did confidently.
Halfway through the first half the lively United forward line capitalised on Pennison hesitancy enabling Lloyd Freeman to score with a clear run on goal, giving Beals no chance.

Kyle Paul came more into the game and his pace and power caused some headaches to the Lincoln rearguard. On more than one occasion his nifty footwork down the left flank saw him cross dangerously which should have brought some success from his onrushing colleagues. Matt Rutherford also provided his customary quality from dead ball situations and although Rasen looked dangerous with constant pressure on the Lincoln goal were all to often unable to work the visiting goalkeeper.
Scott Lowman fired over the crossbar from the edge of the box from another Rasen foray.
Just before the break the visitors increased the lead. from a free kick near the right corner flag Freeman was able to rise virtually unchallenged to head powerfully home.

In a bid to provide extra manpower up front Rasen introduced Aaron Mettam to the attack who replaced the unlucky Guy Smith. However. as Rasen huffed and puffed against the wall of a Lincoln defence, marshalled by the excellent Mcdaid, the visitors again comprehensively punished a Rasen defensive mistake. The usually immaculate Drew Norburn misjudged the left wing centre to allow Atkinson to fire home from close range.
Things got even worse when the lively Atkinson grabbed his second and Lincoln's fourth when he capitalised on ball watching from a through ball, to again slip the ball passed Beals and into the net.
Rasen still pressed and the ever reliable Adam Brumpton got a consolation goal when he found space on the left of the penalty area to crash home.
In the dying moments as Rasen pressed forward Atkinson was able again to run free from his markers to complete his fine hat trick. Rasen responded with a powerful Drew Norburn header to make the final score 5-2 to the visitors.

" We weren't at the races today and didn't do things very well at either end of the pitch " commented Manager Ian Williams after the game." I thought the keeper did brilliantly and did more than we asked of him. the score line didn't do his performance justice. We have a big local derby next week and we need to put on a decent show in what is a very winnable game for us".

Market Rasen Town 0-3 Gainsborough Town - 24th Nov 2012

The latest round of Lincolnshire League fixtures brought league newcomers Gainsborough Town to Rase Park last Saturday.
After the heavy rain during the week the Pitch at Rase Park  was remarkably still in a fantastic condition. Gainsborough had enjoyed an excellent start to the season with positive results at many of the top sides meaning they have spent most of the season in the top five of the league.
Rasen were forced into changes again as influential players Scott Lowman, Chris Bassham, Drew Marshall and Jason Hall were all missing. This meant a start for the energetic Aaron Mettam and a return to the fold of the experienced Drew Norburn who partnered Ryan Penniston at the heart of the defence. In goal Chris Lamming replaced the suspended Dale Christie.
Early exchanges indicated that both teams were posturing for a more physical battle and James Bennett, leading the Rasen front line, found himself in a tough duel with his marker  Bennett's frustrations earning him an early caution from the referee.
As the visitors settled into the game they enjoyed most of possession and took a deserved lead halfway through the first period. Josh Nicol gambled off the shoulder of the Rasen back line and despite pressure from Penniston somehow forced the ball through the attempted challenge and keeper Lamming.
Rasen skipper Joe Osbourne rallied his troops and although they matched their opponents on most fronts they were unable to force any real trouble for the visiting keeper. Rasen did have the ball in the net but found the referee correctly blowing for an infringement on the keeper.
Going into the break Rasen were still hopeful of getting back into the game and would look to the guile of Kyle Paul and the predatory instincts of Adam Brumpton to reduce the one goal advantage.
The tussle between James Bennett and his marker blew up ten minutes into the second half when the referee showed a red card to the Gainsborough defender after an over zealous challenge on Bennett.
This should have passed the advantage to the home side but instead brought more of a stubbornness to Gainsborough's defending, and Rasen toiled in the final third.
Kyle Paul was guilty of sloppiness with twenty minutes remaining, his loose control forced him into fouling an opponent 25 yards out from the Rasen goal. The resulting free kick from Ashley Page was as good an execution of a free kick seen at Rase Park in recent years. His left foot curler gave Lamming no chance.
The usually impeccable Osbourne will be disappointed when with ten minutes remaining his attempted pass back on the edge of the box fell to Bognar who made no mistake from ten yards out.

Whilst the final scoreline somewhat flattered the visitors, Rasen never worked the visiting keeper.
After the game Rasen's James Bennett commented " We battled well and thought that we were more than capable of getting a result. For some reason after the sending off we looked complacent."
Rasen must bounce back this coming Saturday when Boston Town Reserves visit Rase Park for a 2pm kick off.

Market Rasen Town 1-3 Nettleham 10th Nov 2012

Nettleham left Rase Park with all the three points last Saturday after a hard fought local derby.
Ed Bruntlett made his first start for Rasen at right back as the home side also welcomed back Ryan Penniston at centre half and leading scorer Kyle Paul to partner Adam Brumpton in the forward line.
Nettleham, currently third in the Lincolnshire League boasted the dangerous Billy Munroe in their forward line and after recently knocking Rasen out the Challenge Cup by the odd goal would once again provide a difficult test for the home side.

The opening exchanges were scrappy with both sides struggling to retain any decent possession and rarely troubling either goal keeper.
Rasen's midfield three of Lowman, Bennett and Osbourne looked to have the upper hand over their counterparts so it was somewhat surprising when the Nettleham right winger was able to get to the byline to send over a cross for that man Munroe to score from close range.

A few minutes later Ryan Penniston was a little hesitant when attempting to shepherd a long ball over in the left back position and was robbed by the eager opponent, who again crossed this time for Cairns to increase the visitors lead.

Rasen brushed themselves down and forced numerous corners as well as new man Bruntlett's dangerous long throws. It was from one of these throws that Adam Brumpton nodded home from close range giving Rasen hope.

Far too many times this season Rasen have lost concentration and were guilty of switching off just after scoring themselves and a long cross field ball left Chris Bassam at left back in no mans land allowing the lively Jack Darby to run unchallenged to slot past the hapless Christie in the Rasen goal, making the scoreline 1-3 to the visitors going into the break.

The pattern of the game mainly stayed the same during the second period and it wasn't until the latter stages did Rasen force any real pressure on the Nettleham goal. Kyle Paul seemed to find some additional energy and on two occasions provided excellent crosses from the left flank, but both Matt Rutherford and James Bennett should have done better with their finishes.

The game ended in another disappointing defeat for Rasen and with a tricky midweek trip under the floodlights of Lincoln United's Ashby Avenue on Wednesday evening (Nov 14th7.45 pm kick off) followed by the visit of high flying Skegness United to Rase Park next Saturday (2pm kick off) the big games come thick and fast.

Reflecting on Saturday and the season so far Rasen Manager Ian Williams commented " We are disappointed with the result of course, but there is plenty of spirit in the camp and the lads know that if we can stop these sloppy errors and keep creating the chances then we will be fine. We struggled for numbers early in the season and we are only just getting our heads above water but the lads who have hung around have been a credit to the club with their commitment. We now have a squad of 17 or 18 to choose from and if the commitment and attitudes remain the same then the results will come.

Heckington United 3 – 4 Market Rasen Town

After the disappointing mid-week defeat to Louth United reserves MRTFC made the long journey to Heckington for their re-arranged Challenge Cup first round fixture. Ineligibility, injuries and work commitments meant interim manager Ian Williams was forced yet again re-shuffle the starting line up which included the returning Andy Brumpton and for the first time in his 30 year football career veteran Williams himself stepped in at centre back to play alongside Scott Lowman.

The game started in slightly frantic fashion with neither team able to stamp their authority and control the tempo as both teams looked to take an early advantage. Rasen always knew that with the pace offered by lone striker Kyle Paul they were always in with a chance of hitting their opponents on the break, and so this proved in the first 10 minutes when Paul broke clear down the left to square the ball to Rutherford who saw his effort cannon against the crossbar with Osbourne unable to find the target from the rebound.

Heckington had a clear game plan of patient play at the back and always looked to find their target men whenever the opportunity arose but with Lowman and Williams in commanding form the hosts never really threatened the Rasen goal in the whole of the first half. It was a different story at the other end with Drew Marshall and Chris Bassam linking well down the left to feed Paul who broke clear and with only the keeper to beat he blasted the ball home on 25 minutes. Not to be outdone by their team mates the right hand side combination of Korytnickyj and Smith surged forward to yet again feed Paul who this time rounded the keeper and place the ball in the back of the net to double Rasens advantage. Paul could’ve completed a first half hat-trick late on the half but his effort was saved well by the homes teams keeper.

Going into the second half Rasen looked to control the game by sticking tight to their opponents to nullify their game plan but a poor second half performance saw Heckington produce two identical goals with long high balls into the box which were not dealt with by the Rasen defence or keeper. With renewed vigour in their game Heckington produced their best form in the second half but were unable to put themselves ahead and with 15 minutes remaining Paul looked to have sealed victory when he slotted home to finally complete his hat-trick. However, in the dying minutes of normal time Heckington forced a corner which was again not dealt with and bundled the ball home to send the game into extra time.

With neither team having a full complement of substitutes available extra time was always going to be difficult for both tiring teams but it was Rasen who yet again took the lead when Guy Smith found space in the box to power home into the bottom corner. This was to be the last time Rasen would see the Heckington goal as the home team powered forward in search of the equaliser but it was at the point that Dale Christie in the Rasen goal showed all his experience by producing four crucial saves late in the game to keep his team ahead and as the ref blew the final whistle an exhausted but jubilant Rasen team savoured the hard fought victory which will now see them host Nettleham in the quarter finals (date to be confirmed)

Manager Calls For Rase Park Roar

Rasen Football supremo Andy Brumpton has called on Rasen folk to create the noise at Rase Park this coming  Saturday (4th Feb) for the Lincs Cup Semi Final clash with Pinchbeck United, Kick Off 2.30pm.

" Our league form has been a bit up and down for most of the season, but in the Cup the lads have been outstanding, especially in the last round against Moulton. We hear Pinchbeck will bring a bus or two of travelling supporters so it would be great if the local people could also turn up in force. It would give the lads a massive lift ".

Brumpton is well aware that Pinchbeck are full of experienced non league players and enjoy serious financial backing in their bid to climb the non league pyramid. It will be a massive test for a Rasen team who have already seen off two other Peterborough League teams in Crowland and Moulton Harrox, who incidentally, drew with Pinchbeck recently.

To assist with the carnival atmosphere, Rasen's under 8s will play their Under 9 counterparts in a small sided game during the half time interval.

Supporters are reminded that admission is free.

Skegness Utd 3-1 Market Rasen Town

Rasen came away from Wainfleet Rd, Skegness pointless yesterday after an indifferent display against second in the table Skegness United. Scott Lowman had given Rasen hope on the hour mark after firing in from 12 yards from a Coupland free kick, to bring the score to 2-1. Rasen enjoyed long periods of possession on a bumpy pitch and more than matched their high flying hosts. Dissapointly James Bennett saw red after an over zealous challenge just befor half-time, which also saw the Skegness defender dismissed for retaliation. See reports for details in full.

Coupland Signs on Dotted Line

Market Rasen Manager Andy Brumpton unveils new signing Scott Coupland.
Manager Andy Brumpton was clearly delighted as he welcomed new signing Scott Coupland to the fold for 2012.
Coupland had recently become disillusioned with life at senior non league level and signed last night after meeting up with his new team mates.
Coupland's pedigree is well known in county circles as he topped last season's scoring charts for his former club Lincoln United. It is believed that the travelling involved in the Evo Stick League was a factor in dropping down to the Lincs League with Rasen. Scott who was impressed with the set up at Rase Park after starring and scoring for Lincoln United in a pre season friendly in which United won 0-2.
Scott is also well known at Rase Park for his cricketing abilities as a stubborn wicket-keeper/batsman for local rivals Cherry Willingham.

Nettles In Town for Local Derby Saturday 12th Nov Kick Off 2pm

Nettleham visit Rase Park this Saturday and will provide a stern test for the improving Rasen squad. Fresh from their 3-2 victory over Heckington, watched by Rasen boss Andy Brumpton and Chairman Jon Stephenson, the Nettles will certainly provide Rasen with one of their toughest tests this term.

After joining the league this season from the Central Midlands League the Nettles have enjoyed a fruitful campaign so far. The main highlight being a fine victory over last season's champions Boston Utd Reserves.

Nettleham strikers Munro and Beesley provide the firepower with former Lincoln City and Grimsby Town midfielder Adam Buckley pulling the strings from the flanks.

Manager Brumpton has a squad of 19 which sees Scott Lowman back after missing the midweek trip to Boston, which apart from coming away with no points from the Jakemans Stadium, could probably be described as the best all round team performance of the season.

Drew Norburn (Knee) and Joe Osbourne (Back) face late tests on fitness. Andy Belt and Adam Brumpton both impressed coming off the bench at Boston and will expect to be somewhere near a starting position.

Josh Colgan and Guy Smith are still long term injury absentees from the squad.

Boston Utd Res 2-1 Market Rasen Town

Rasen had a chance to equalise with 5 minutes remaining in the second half when substitutes Andy Belt and Adam Brumpton combined on the left only forBrumpton to force home keeper Drury into a fine save.

Boston included at least 6 players with 1st team experience and former Manchester City, Scunthorpe Utd and Macclesfield Town wingman Tyrone Kirk, currently on trial with the Conference North outfit.

Although on the wrong end of this result confidence remains high ahead of Saturdays local derby v Nettleham (Rase Park 2pm KO)

Injury Doubts for Jakeman Stadium Trip - 8/11/11

Rasen are without new signing Scott Lowman for Tuesdays trip to Boston Utd res (kick off 7.45pm). Lowman has a long standing family committment and will be dissapointed to miss the trip to his former club.

Also doubful is influential midfielder Joe Osbourne who faces a late test on a back injury sustained on Saturday.

Veteren Ian Williams is struggling with a persistant ankle problem but should be fit.

On the plus side, Striker and last season s leading goalscorer, Adam Brumpton is a welcome addition to the squad after his fractured ankle and he will hope to play some part of the game. Also, Andrew Belt is back in contention after being unavailable at the weekend.

Rasen will be looking for an improvement in fortunes on their last visit to Boston when the home side cruised to a 5-2 victory in the League Cup.

Old Lincoln League rivalries are renewed this Saturday when Metheringham are the visitors to Rase Park for a Lincs Junior Cup fixture (kick off 130pm).

Andy Brumpton is without Andy Belt, who is unavailable, along with injury victims Adam Brumpton, Guy Smith, Josh Colgan and Drew Norburn.

A good turn out at training included Adam Brumpton who has pencilled in next Saturdays home game v Nettleham for a return to the squad.

With a trip to the palacial York Street home of Boston United on Tuesday night (Kick Off 745pm), Manager Brumpton will look to utilise all the squad over the next few days.

Both the new signings Scott Lowman and Dave Hone impressed during last Saturdays victory over Swineshead and are available for Saturday.

Rasen add to the ranks  for vital home Fixture V Swineshead Institute- Sat 29th Oct 3pm Kick Off

After Tuesdays tale of two halves at high flying Cleethorpes Town which the leaders spanked Rasen 6-1 on a pitch more suitable to boating, Rasen management has added additional steel with the signing of former Spalding United defender David Hone. Southrey based  Hone signature is again proof that Manager Andy Brumpton will strengthen the squad as and when necessary. Hone, the son of former Chrystal Palace and Lincoln City defender Mark and brother of current Lincoln City defender Danny, returns to the game after a lenghthy ban. There is no doubt that the goals against column is not good reading for a side that early season looked difficult to breakdown. With Scott Lowman impressing on Tuesday, Rasen will look for maximum spoils from Swinshead's first vist to Rase Park. Only long term injury victims Guy Smith and Adam Brumpton are missing from possibly the strongest squad Rasen has produced in recent years. Will Bradford may be given more time to rest a problem back strain, which means Dale Christie could continue between the sticks.

Lincoln United 2-1 Market Rasen Town

A spirited second half display was not enough for any points from Tuesdays trip under the floodlights at Ashby Avenue. After a sloppy first half display which meant going into the second half trailing by 2 goals to nil, Rasen rallied and produced the better football for most of the period. A James Bennett goal midway in the half was all that came of their efforts.
